CHED sets June 8 as official school opening for HEIs
The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Regional Office 6 has set June 8 as the official school opening for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Western Visayas.
CHED OIC-Chief Supervising Education Program Specialist Dr. Christie Laurente said that although this is the official school opening set, other private HEIs might opt to start a little bit later so long as they can meet the required number of school days.
Dr. Laurente said that this school opening, they expect high enrolment in courses such as Hotel and Restaurant Management, Maritime, Nursing and Business Administration because of the potential for employment.
She said that preparation for the conduct of random drug testing this school opening is also underway, but not all 137 HEIs might be covered with this program intended to address the illegal drug problem affecting students.
She also said that they still could not ascertain how many students would really be enrolled for the first semester, adding that high enrolment during the first semester is already a trend. However, students along the way drop from their classes or cannot continue during the second semester, thus causing the decline. (PNA)
